Pennine Way Anniversary

The 24th April marks the 50th anniversary of the Pennine Way, the UK's very first National Trail. The trail begins in Edale and stretches all the way to Kirk Yetholm in Northumbria and can take between 16 and 19 days to walk the whole 268 mile length.

There is a lot of activity planned to celebrate the anniversary, details of which can be found on the National Trails website. Losehill House is on Edale's doorstep and a great place to rest up before attempting to walk all or part of the trail - we have rooms available on the 24th April.

A documentary about the Pennine Way has been made and the first episode will be airing tonight on BBC One Yorkshire & Lincolnshire, North East & Cumbria, and the North West. It will also available nationwide on iPlayer for 30 days thereafter.

Solar Eclipse from the Peak District

Today holds two titles - the first day of Spring and also the day of a partial solar eclipse.

The eclipse occurred around 9:30am this morning, but unfortunately it was fairly cloudy. However, we did manage to catch a glimpse at the point of maximum coverage.

The National Trust Peak District Twitter account was able to capture and share this image of the eclipse viewed from Edale, near Losehill House:

Let's hope the next solar eclipse visible from the UK in 2026 will be on a clear day!

Walk Hand in Hand

One of the easiest and cheapest things that you can do in the Peak District is to put on your walking boots and go for a stroll together. Visit Peak District has some great suggested routes which you can take, depending on where you want to start from. How about the Shivering Mountain walking route, starting from Castleton? Increase the romance by taking along a picnic hamper filled with your partner's favourite foods. Just be sure to wrap up warm!

Tea for Two

Enjoy a delicious afternoon tea for two in our Orangery Restaurant, with spectacular panoramic views of the Hope Valley. Ours is a traditional afternoon tea selection of finger sandwiches, served on white and brown bread, to include smoked salmon, Bennets' Hope Valley free range egg with mayonnaise, cucumber and Peak District ham and mustard. The tea also includes warm, freshly baked scones with whipped cream and strawberry jam, and a selection of seasonal home-made cakes. Add Champagne for extra sparkle!
